"And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.” (Matthew 28: 5)
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
In our Focal Scripture, the Angel of the Lord told the women that they were seeking Jesus who was crucified. Notice that Jesus had risen from the grave at this point, but the women were still fixated on His previous state of death. Jesus had risen from the grave, but the women were still seeking the Jesus who died. Jesus’ current state, was resurrection; but the women were fixated on the former state of Jesus, being death.
Friend, there comes a time when you must forget the old and look forward to what is ahead. There comes a time when you need to be done with whatever is past. There comes a time when you must be done with the old. Be done with past battles. Be done with past issues. Be done with past struggles. Be done with past mistakes. Be done with past experiences that were not edifying. Be done with old bitterness, old hate, and everything old.
The last that the women saw of Jesus, was Him being crucified. Notice that Jesus had told them that He would rise. So, they focused on what they saw, rather than focus on what was to unfold which they were yet to see. Being fixated on the old will hinder you from embracing the realities of God’s word which you may not yet have seen. If you focus on the old, you may even forget the new things that God Himself told you.
The women came for Jesus that was crucified; they came for His body, to anoint it with ointments, but He had already risen. A new thing had happened while they kept their eyes on the old. New things are unfolding already, so don’t keep your eyes on the old. Forget the old and expect the new. Forget the old and keep your thoughts on the new season that God is unveiling. Forget the old and speak the new. Expect the new. See the new.
The old is gone; the new has come. Forget the old; keep your eyes on Jesus. If God be for you, the new will unfold sooner than later.
Isaiah 43: 18 says: “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.”
Declare With Me: The old is gone; the new is being unveiled, in Jesus’ name!
